If you like warm weather, you’ll love San Angelo. The weather is above freezing year-round, with lows around 35F in January and highs near 96F in July.
Most of the year, the average high temperatures are around 60F. The weather is also clear most of the time, with few days of rainfall.
The sky is clear between 60 and 75% of the time on average. If you enjoy warmer weather with clear skies, San Angelo will be great for you!

You can get to Dallas/Fort Worth in about 4 hours by car. San Antonio is only about 3 hours away, and Austin is a similar distance.

Like any place, San Angelo has some drawbacks. It’s up to you to determine if the benefits of living there outweigh the drawbacks, but here are the honest cons of living in San Angelo.
10. Hot Summers
If you don’t like the heat, San Angelo might not be the place for you. High temperatures in the Summer months (June, July, and August) are all above 90 degrees.
Low temperatures during the winter are still above freezing. Between the temperature and the lack of precipitation, you’re unlikely to see much snow.
11. Limited Shopping
San Angelo has a lot going for it, but shopping is a bit limited. Thankfully, the proximity to large cities may make up for it.
Still, if you’re looking for shopping options in your hometown, San Angelo might not have enough to offer you.
12. Potholes and Poorly Maintained Roads
San Angelo doesn’t have great roads.
The streets are poorly maintained and may have more potholes than average. TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) focuses on fixing some of these roads regularly.
Still, avoiding potholes may become a daily requirement in San Angelo.

13. Crime Rate
The crime rate in San Angelo varies based on where you live.
However, San Angelo as a whole has a poor crime rating for violent crime and property crime.

14. Schools Aren’t Great
San Angelo, TX has 111 total schools, with about half of those being private schools. Unfortunately, GreatSchools doesn’t show great ratings for many of them.
Three elementary schools (out of 44 total) are rated above a 5/10 for metrics like academic performance.
All 28 middle schools and 37 high schools rate at 5/10 or below.
