Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Best Ally Characters To Use In Parallel Quests (2024)

Unlike other fighting games, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 prides itself in being an open-world experience, allowing players to explore Dragon Ball’s story, embark on a new one in Xenoverse 2’s story mode, as well as roam around to encounter various villains along the way. This not only ensures there’s always something new to do, but this mechanic locks interesting content behind certain activities within the game. One particular Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 mechanics players should take note of are Parallel Quests, essentially side missions with unique stories that reward not just currency but items and unlockables, such as costumes and even techniques.

Thankfully, players don’t immediately have to take on these quests alone. In fact, they can take some ally characters with them to ensure they have a fighting chance in some of this Dragon Ball game’s most intense quests.

10 Ribrianne

Fans of Dragon Ball Super would recognize Kamikaze Fireballs leader Ribrianne, boasting quite the flair for leadership. However, despite her short stint as a character in Dragon Ball Super, she remains a force to reckon with in Xenoverse 2. Her Super Soul, “That won’t work on me!” capitalizes on her tankiness, as hitting her with an Ultimate Attack will trigger its one-time effect of hugely reducing damage from all attacks.

Aside from this Super Soul, the rest of her toolkit cements her position as a tank. Aside from decent attacks such as Pretty Cannon and her Ultimate Maiden Burst, she has a Full Power Charge variant called Pretty Charge, a power-up move called Formation!, and a Power Up Ultimate called Lovely Showtime that can raise her Ki and Stamina with the right charging.

9 Piccolo

Previously a rival of Goku, Piccolo becomes one of his closest confidants throughout the rest of the series. Serving as Gohan’s mentor, it’s no surprise that Piccolo becomes the ever-reliable healer in Xenoverse 2. With his “I’m neither Kami nor Piccolo!” Super Soul, he always gets stronger Ki Blast attacks - essential for his toolkit. Not only that, but he always gets Health Auto-Recovery at maximum Stamina, incentivizing a long-ranged approach.

While AI Piccolo often heals players, he’s no slouch either. Much of his stronger attacks are Ki Blasts, with Light Grenade dealing damage across different stages, Paralyze Beam stunning opponents, and his Ultimate Hellzone Grenade being a homing attack.

8 Towa

Antagonist Towa of the Xenoverse 2 story is hell-bent on reviving the Demon Realm to wreck timelines and attain power, and she is nothing to underestimate in combat. Her Super Soul, “Revival of the Demon Realm is at hand,” immediately cements the advantage on the get-go. Aside from having a much shorter revival time, she immediately starts combat with two filled Ki bars. Players interested in a quick finish may want to capitalize on this advantage and get blasting.

This Super Soul works well with the rest of her toolkit designed to debilitate the enemy’s advance. For instance, Time Bullet traps opponents in a ranged grabbing sphere, while Bloody Sauce can either poison and/or slow down enemies. Moreover, her Energy Zone Ultimate not only blasts enemies away but heals allies inside this protective area.

7 Cooler (Fourth Form)

Sometimes, the best allies come in the form of characters designed specifically to give opponents a false sense of security. Such is the case of Cooler (Fourth Form), which in Xenoverse 2 gameplay retains his annoyance towards his younger brother Frieza while exhibiting a much deadlier approach to combat, similar to Cooler’s image in the films. His “The real hell begins here!” Super Soul does force his attacks to get weaker to a certain degree, but this is exchanged with a buff that both poisons and slows down opponents when hitting them with Charged Ki Blasts.

This Super Soul complements Cooler’s toolkit that focuses on strong Ki Blasts. Outside his Sledgehammer designed to get opponents away from him, he has a quick-shooting Death Beam, as well as the stunning Destructive Ray. Cooler also possesses a Full Power Energy Wave Ultimate that can deal as much as 25% damage and his signature Supernova Cooler that can deal as much as 45% damage.

6 Golden Frieza

After the events leading to his resurrection, Frieza trains and attains an even more powerful “perfected” form known as Golden Frieza. This Frieza transformation cements the sheer regality of Frieza as a tyrant, preferring not to deal damage up close. Reflected by “The gold represents the new me” Super Soul, Golden Frieza enjoys much stronger normal Ki Blasts, cementing a long-ranged approach.

This Super Soul complements the rest of his toolkit well, particularly ranged attacks such as explosive launcher Emperor’s Edge, focus fire Crazy Finger Shot, and stunning Emperor’s Blast. Most importantly, his deadly Ultimate Emperor’s Death Beam can dish out a minimum of 40% damage over 15 hits depending on how much Ki he possesses.

5 Pikkon

In Dragon Ball lore, Pikkon serves as Piccolo's substitute during the filler arcs of the core Dragon Ball Z anime. However, Pikkon’s no slouch when it comes to combat, especially in the gameplay of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 when used as a PQ Ally. Core to his combat mechanics is his Super Soul, “This is as far as you go,” which essentially forces all enemies to target them when their Ki is maxed out. Not to mention, successfully blocking foes will restore a bit of their Ki.

Pikkon’s taunting nature makes them work well as a tanking unit, capable of taking damage on behalf of the player. Not only that, but the rest of his toolkit works well to send opponents further from the team such as knockdowns from Hyper Tornado, or punishing counter-strikes from Burning Shot and Reverse Mabakusenko.

4 Goku (Super Saiyan 4)

When a mishap transforms Goku into a child in Dragon Ball GT, it doesn’t mean that Goku has become rather weak. In fact, this has paved a way for him to become much stronger than before, being able to fully master the Golden Great Ape transformation and become a Super Saiyan 4. In the context of Xenoverse 2, Goku (Super Saiyan 4) becomes an ever-reliable rushdown ally, capable of debilitating enemy ranks with his fierce attacks.

His attacks already give him a lot of room on the offense, especially with rushing attacks like Super Dragon Fist and Dragon Fist. However, his Ultimate X10 Kamehameha can become one of the strongest attacks in the game when used properly. Not to mention, his Super Soul “Fully-Powered Super Saiyan 4!” gives players an edge when Goku (SS4) dies for the first time, as his resurrected form gets boosted by normal attacks that can certainly retake the advantage.

3 Broly

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Best Ally Characters To Use In Parallel Quests (8)

Despite his short stint as a foe in Dragon Ball lore, Broly as the Legendary Super Saiyan took the efforts of all existing Saiyans and a newfound fusion form in order to be defeated. In the context of Xenoverse 2, Broly becomes quite the formidable ally with his Super Soul alone. With “My Ki is building… Overflowing…” Broly suffers from a huge Stamina recovery speed debuff but also receives a massive reduction in damage taken from all attacks.

This Super Soul is coupled with a toolkit that emphasizes punishing foes who even try to get close to him. Even from afar, both his Gigantic Omega and Blaster Shell Super Skills can reach opponents with varying degrees of Ki Blast damage. Most importantly, Broly as an AI regularly spams his Ultimate Gigantic Meteor, capable of dealing as much as 45% damage across four (4) hits.

2 Super Baby 2

When the parasite Baby takes over Vegeta’s body in the events of Dragon Ball GT, he becomes Super Baby 2. This powered-up “fusion” form utilizes much of Vegeta’s skills, this time with a lethal twist. In the context of Xenoverse lore, Super Baby 2 easily becomes a formidable tank. Thanks to his Super Soul, “Don’t think I’m the same as before!”, Super Baby 2 becomes more durable when he reaches 25% Health. Not only does he get a one-time effect of drastically reducing damage taken, but he also spends the rest of the time ignoring large amounts of damage.

These greatly complement his aggressive take on combat. His Variant Drive is a rushdown attack with a shockwave element, while his Reverse Shot has tracking properties. Most impressive is his Revenge Death Ball, capable of dealing as much as 70% damage across 22 hits when reaching maximum charge. Considering that AI Super Baby 2 regularly spams his Ultimate, he’s quite a formidable tank in a team.

1 Zamasu

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Best Ally Characters To Use In Parallel Quests (10)

There’s no better ally than one that always comes back from the dead, and such is the case of Zamasu, the Supreme Kai Apprentice of Universe 10 who dreamt of eradicating all life and repopulating the universe with beings like himself. As a Core Person, Zamasu is practically immortal, reflected with his “I really do love being immortal” Super Soul, which always revives him after knockouts but with reduced Health restored.

Zamasu’s immortality becomes annoying when combined with his long-ranged reliance. For instance, his Heavenly Arrow and God Splitter are rather “weak” attacks but accumulate heavy damage due to their accessibility. Meanwhile, his Shockwave is an unblockable stun that gives Zamasu and his allies openings for combos. Lastly, his Instant Severance is a powerful rush attack that can deal 40% damage in two (2) hits.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was released for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.
