Is the NHA certification test hard? ›

The difficulty of the NHA CCMA exam can vary depending on your preparation and background knowledge. The exam covers a wide range of topics and requires a significant amount of knowledge and understanding. However, with the right preparation and study resources, such as Smarter MA, the exam is very manageable.

You must get a score of at least 390, which is 78%, to pass.

You can take one of the medical assistant certification exams (CCMA, CMA, or RMA) after completing an approved training program. If you've already worked as a medical assistant, you can just take the CCMA exam (1 year experience required) or RMA test (3 years experience) without going through a training program.

About NHA Phlebotomy Exam Scoring

NHA assigns a value to each question on the test based on difficulty. With this scaled scoring system, the ranges fall between a low 200 to a perfect score of 500. The NHA phlebotomy exam passing score is 390.

What is the difference between NHA and CCMA? ›

Both are certifications for medical assistants. The difference is that they are given by different certification bodies. A CCMA certification is awarded to medical assistants who pass the exam given by the NHA and wants to be a clinical medical assistant.

This certification is accepted by employers across the United States, and is held in high esteem within the medical community. But this isn't the type of exam you can cram for overnight—in order to pass the NHA CPT exam, you will need to be very well-prepared.

Once you feel ready, register for your exam — just make sure you schedule your exam date at least 30 days after your first or second attempt. If you do not pass after your third attempt, you must wait 12 months to take the exam again.
